MEMBERSHIP:


BCASI is a volunteer-run organization. Membership is acquired by attending meetings and participating in the development of the association.

BCASI CODE OF CONDUCT:

  • All surfers must be able to swim at least 50 metres in open water.
  • Keep your surfing equipment in good condition.
  • Always wear a leash to prevent you from losing your surfboard.
  • Have consideration for other water users such as kayakers and fishermen.
  • If you are new to the sport, never rent a surfboard without first having a lesson from a BCASI certified instructor.
  • When paddling out, avoid surfers who are riding waves.
  • Do not drop in on another surfer. Whoever is up and riding closest to the critical section of the wave (the "deepest") has priority.
  • Be environmentally friendly. Always leave the beach and other areas as you wish to find them.

Business Membership Requirements

  1. Must be a fully insured business in the nature of surf instruction.
  2. Must follow the BCASI guidelines for Surf Schools and Surf Instructors
  3. Must have a valid Pacific Rim National Park Business License
  4. Must have a valid business license in the district in which the business operates (i.e. Tofino or Ucluelet etc).
  5. Must pay the $100 a year fee payable to the BCASI

Business membership benefits: The business to be listed as an approved surf school with logo and business info posted on the BCASI website. Business Members will be authorized to advertise as a BCASI approved surf school. Business members will be included in future group insurance plans.

Surfing Individual Membership

  1. Must attend a BCASI approved surf instructors course. Potential members who have qualifications equal to the BCASI requirements will be approved if proper documents are submitted.
  2. Must pay the $25 a year fee payable to the BCASI

Surfing membership benefits include resume` listing on the BCASI website (surfing specific info) to allow viewing by potential employers. Surfing members will be given a membership card that will allow the individual to be hired by BCASI business members.

Individual Membership

  1. Must pay the $20 a year fee payable to the BCASI

Individual membership allows other surfers and non-surfers (who may not wish to be surf instructors), to support the association. Members at this level will receive a "Thank you" card for their support, as well as any other printed association updates.

All members are welcome at BCASI meetings and member feedback is appreciated. BCASI rules and regulations will be determined by the Board of Directors through a fair voting process.
